Brigitte (Mother)
Brigitte is Steven’s mother and his most reliable family relationship in the record. Steven is an only child. She was one of two entrepreneur parents in the Lyon region.
Character
Steven describes her in the therapy transcript as “exceptionnelle.” She has been available, trusting, and willing to give him the independence he needed while remaining present. The relationship has become mutual and intellectual: “elle m’apporte beaucoup de choses, je lui en apporte beaucoup, elle m’écoute, je l’écoute autant.”
This framing, intellectual parity between mother and adult child, is consistent with how Steven relates to people he respects. She is not idealized as a maternal figure so much as recognized as a person he engages with directly.
Material support
Brigitte sold her company before 2025 and used the proceeds to buy Steven an apartment in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, which Steven then renovated to his tastes. Steven was in a period of psychological and financial crisis, living in what he described as an “appart infernal” in the 17.93m² studio. He credits the apartment with helping him maintain hope and functional stability.
She was also co-indivisaire on the Bellevue Apartment, a 38m² T2 at 5 rue de Bellevue in the 19th arrondissement. They sold it together in early 2026 for 315,000 euros cash to Jean-Marc Gaggioli, Dimitri’s father. Steven notes: “On a piloté ça ensemble… vendre un bien en indivision avec un parent, c’est naviguer une relation familiale à travers la bureaucratie notariale, et il faut que les deux tiennent en même temps. Les deux ont tenu.”
During COVID and post-Arthur unemployment periods, she also provided monthly transfers to cover living costs.
Contrast with father
The contrast with Steven’s father is stark. Where his father promised support and withheld it, Brigitte delivered it without conditions. Where his father was emotionally distant and at times intimidating, she was emotionally attuned. The asymmetry shaped Steven’s model of what support looks like.
