Place: Paris

Paris is the city where Steven has lived since roughly 2019 or 2020. Across the record it appears as a place of social expansion, work, isolation, and eventually domestic stability.

Arrival

Steven began spending weekends in Paris during his final master’s year. He went for Thursday and Friday courses, stayed with friends, and discovered techno parties there. That period led directly into his move to the city, which required a CDI and brought him to Ipso.

He described the arrival as a rapid consolidation of work and social life. He said he had found the job he wanted, an apartment, and a social life that exceeded what he had known before.

Queer social life

Paris was the first social environment in which Steven felt socially safe. He describes it as a place where he could let go of some of his defenses. The techno-queer milieu combined nightlife, harm reduction, sexual exploration, and sustained conversation. See Queer Harm Reduction Community.

The after-party scene was a central form of that social world. Afters could last several days and usually took place in private apartments. He treated the scene as protective rather than merely recreational.

Lockdown and isolation

During the March 2020 lockdown, Paris stopped in place around him. He was alone, without work, and watching the city empty out. The lockdown period became one of the main settings for his depression.

Work and housing

Paris also structures his professional record. It contains Ipso, the later ESN job, the Shadow application, the Résilience job, the freelance iOS mission, and the launch of PartnerNote.

Housing gives the city its clearest shape in the record. See Apartment Bastille (17.93m²) and Apartment 19th Arrondissement.

The 19th arrondissement

The 19th arrondissement is where Steven now lives. He emphasizes the view, the quiet street, the absence of a vis-à-vis, and the sense of being able to inhabit the apartment without being watched. That spatial condition matters because being observed triggers masking for him.
