Place: Barcelona (April 2021)
Steven spent one week in Barcelona in April 2021, immediately after the end of his relationship with Arthur. It was his first documented solo trip as an adult.
Context
He went with a backpack, alone, and without elaborate planning. The trip marked a clean break from the social gravity of the Arthur period. In the closing journal entry, he framed the organization as his part and the experience as something the city and the trip itself gave back to him.
One documented moment places him with Ivo on April 23, 2021 at 17:42. Ivo is not otherwise identified in the sources.
What it meant
Barcelona restored his appetite for solo travel. It reintroduced a mode of being that was mobile, self-directed, and less dependent on a relationship structure. He ended the trip by restating that he would act in his own way from then on.
The Tulum aftermath
Three days after returning, he received an invitation to Arturo and Poncho’s wedding in Tulum. See Tulum Refusal. He prepared quickly, borrowed clothes, got a PrEP prescription, got a haircut, and flew from Lyon through Geneva toward Miami.
US immigration denied him entry in Miami even though he was only in transit and had a negative PCR test. He returned to France and then back to Paris. The refusal cut the post-Barcelona arc short.
Significance
Barcelona is the clearest completed solo trip in Steven’s record. It sits between the Arthur relationship and the longer post-Arthur recovery period. It also marks the point where he explicitly reasserted an independent mode of action.
