Tulum Refusal
The Tulum refusal was the failed attempt to attend Arturo and Poncho’s wedding in Mexico shortly after Steven’s April 2021 Barcelona trip. It became the abrupt end of a short post-Arthur adventure arc.
Invitation
Three days after returning from Barcelona, Steven received an invitation to Arturo and Poncho’s wedding in Tulum. He framed the invitation as a gift from the universe after a trip that had restored his appetite for solo travel.
He prepared quickly. He organized clothes, got a PrEP prescription, got a haircut, and left from Lyon toward Geneva and Miami.
Miami denial
US immigration denied him entry in Miami even though he was only in transit and had a negative PCR test. He was turned back and returned to France.
The denial mattered because it cut off the momentum that Barcelona had created. The independent, mobile, self-directed mode had returned for one week, then ran into an external border rule at the exact moment it was expanding.
Narrative role
The refusal sits between the end of the Arthur relationship and the post-Arthur reconstruction attempt. It is not just travel failure. It is a short-lived opening that collapsed before it could become a new phase.
After the refusal, Steven returned to Lyon and then Paris. He found the Bastille studio, applied to Shadow, and entered the next arc.
